Bean Bag Materials
Bean bags can be made from a number of cover materials. Each material lends a different look, and will appeal to different people. Among the most popular materials are fabric, leather and vinyl.
Fabric
Some of the most common materials used for covering bean bags include cotton, cotton-poly blends, and denim. Fabric covering has two advantages: they can be removed from the bag and laundered; and fabrics come in a wider range of colors and patterns than other cover materials. Denim is the most durable of the fabric materials, and will stand up to aggressive use.
Leather
Leather lends a luxurious feel. Leather also adds a casually sophisticated feeling to a room. Look for leather that has been treated to allow spilled liquids to bead up and roll off. You’ll enjoy year after year with your leather bean bag and it’s soft, supple comfort.
Vinyl
Vinyl is probably the easiest of all the materials for which to care. This makes vinyl a popular chair covering for children, teenagers, and college students. Vinyl bean bags generally require just a bit of soap and water to clean up any spills. Enjoy choosing vinyl materials from a wide range of colors. Also, you might want to take a look at vinyl bean bags with a “wet look” finish. This vinyl is just as strong and durable as regular vinyl but has a lustrous, shiny glow.
Filler and Seams
Regardless of the covering, bean bags will be filled with polystyrene beads or shredded foam. Depending on the amount of use, it will need to be refilled as both types of filler will eventually flatten. How often and how much filler you put in depends on how fluffy or flat you like your bean bag. To keep the filler inside, even after years of use, they are sewn with heavy-duty or nylon thread seaming.
